So when are you coming to Venice?
Popular lore has it that Venice is a dazzling city filled with lovers strolling along its canals and gondola drivers singing out ‘O Sole Mio’ as they gently glide their gondolas under the bridge of sighs. This is not far off the mark. Venice is a dazzling city - meant to be strolled through (cars are not allowed in anyway!) and the gondolas are its most enduring symbol.

This mountainous land is the smallest country in Central Asia but is the traditional on ramp to the Silk Road from China. Three primary caravan routes ran through Tajikistan’s Tien-Shan and Pamir mountain ranges.
Only around 7% of the land is arable, nearly all of in the fertile Fergana Valley in the north, which produces the major agricultural crop, cotton, which, along with aluminum, are country’s major exports.
Tajikistan’s capital and largest city is Dushanbe, modern and European styled, with broad tree-lined boulevards and a spectacular backdrop of snow capped mountain peaks. The city features numerous squares and monuments commemorating the Persian influences of the past and its surroundings contain many recreational areas, mountain parks and gorges, one with a 100 foot waterfall.

Well, that’s how Percy French put it in his song The Mountains of Mourne, and sitting outside the pub that bears his name, sipping a well-earned pint of Guinness, looking back up to Slieve Donard, it’s an apt image - the Mourne Mountains tower above the seaside town of Newcastle, Co. Down, a hectic tourist town in summer, but agreeably quiet and deserted in January.

Remember that movie with Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer, she’s a wannabe TV reporter and he’s her boss and they get married. He dies and she succeeds beyond her wildest dreams because she gets Up close and Personal with the camera and her audience. He teaches her how to be real on screen. Or gives her permission to be herself. And she loves him for that.
What the heck does that movie have to do with your business and networking, you ask. Glad you asked. There is a saying, sometimes heard on The Apprentice and other shows… it’s not personal, it’s just business…
